I spent most of my life thinking getting healthy had to be complicated, had to be a monumental task.

Turns out, I was making it a hell of a lot harder than it needed to be.

The biggest thing I’ve learned through all of this is simple: just keep going.

You don’t have to be perfect. You don’t have to have the perfect diet, the perfect workout, or even know what you’re doing when you start. You’re going to screw up. You’re going to have bad days. There will be days when you don’t feel like doing any of it. Keep going anyway.

I was a fat guy for over 40 years. If I can turn it around, you can too. One of the biggest things that I had to accept was the fact that changing my life involved more than just one day, one decision, one meal and one workout. You can’t change your whole life that fast, it takes a little time.

Just don’t quit. Keep doing it long enough and one day you’ll look up and realize…

Success is Boring

It wasn’t like a Rocky film, it was getting up, eating reasonably well, going to the gym, coming home, and doing it again. Nothing spectacular happened on any one day. The spectacular part was what all those ordinary days eventually added up to.

Going to the gym when you didn’t feel like going. Not because every workout was great, but because Monday, Wednesday and Friday became what you did.

Eating a bad meal and not turning it into a bad week. You didn’t need to “start over Monday.” The next meal was simply another chance to eat right.

Learning that boring works. Same gym, same basic foods, same routine. Eventually you stopped needing excitement to keep you moving.

Not seeing changes every day. Some weeks the scale didn’t cooperate, but you kept doing the work anyway.

Moving beyond the shot. GLP-1 gives you an opening, but eventually you have to learn how to live when the shot isn’t the thing carrying the load anymore.

Realizing a screwup wasn’t failure. Birthday dinner, vacation, pizza, whatever. You enjoyed it and went back to normal instead of saying, “Well, I blew it, game over.” It’s not over.

Watching small things become big things. The guy who was just trying to get healthier eventually became the guy moving serious weight in the gym. That didn’t happen Tuesday afternoon. It happened workout after workout.

I spent a lot of years thinking I’d get around to things someday. Someday I’d lose the weight. Someday I’d get in shape. Someday I’d travel more. The funny thing about someday is that eventually you run out of them.

So now, if there’s somewhere I want to go, something I want to see, or something I want to try, I do it.

Never Give Up

I’m not trying to turn back the clock. I’m just trying to make the most of the time I have left.

I don’t know what comes next. But I’m damn sure going to be there for it.
